Welcome To Khalsa Secondary School
Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
As the new Principal of Khalsa Secondary School for the 2018/19 school year and having undertaken the transition from the public to the private school system, this has been a year of learning for me as much as it has been for the students. I have learned how warm, open, loving and trusting our students are, how amazingly talented our students are in so many different spheres, and most importantly I have a list of ideas and opportunities for Khalsa Secondary School students. It will be a busy summer for me!
There have been so many successes to celebrate this year. We had our Grade 10 student Mankeerat Singh Sidhu compete in the Regional Science Fair and win first place. He then proceeded to the National Science Fair in Fredericton and win a Bronze medal! Our Junior Girls Basketball team placed third in the GVISAA championships. Our Senior Girls Basketball team won the GVISAA championships which allowed them to qualify for the GVISAA Level A provincials. They played their hearts out in the provincials. Our Grade 11/12 Woodworking students took the initiative to build planters and start a community garden. Our Grade 9 Humanities classes wrote, directed and performed a play based on Anne Frank’s diaries for the whole school. Our Grade 10 Career Life Connections class helped plan and execute our first ever Khalsa Secondary School Career Fair which had over 30 specialists from various fields come and share their experiences with our students. Our PE teachers organized a Walking Club and students along with teachers racked up miles on our track and celebrated with a field trip to the Stanley Park Seawall. As every year, our students participated in Gatka, Tabla, Kirtan, Gurbani and Dastaar competitions. Finally, many of our classes participated in the Inquiring Minds Fair where students showcased how they learned and what they learned. I look forward to many more events like these and more in the years to come!
The Khalsa is always meant to take risks, to stand for justice, to be courageous, and to take care of fellow human beings. Our goal at KSS is to prepare you all for the real world so that when you leave us, you espouse these values and become engaged and valuable global citizens.
To the incoming and returning students of Khalsa Secondary School, I can’t want to see you next September! To the parents – I cannot wait to work with you to ensure that your children are reaching their full potential in every sphere. Have a restful and safe summer.
