Welcome

Welcome to the 2016-2017 School Year and Khalsa School's 30th Anniversary!

Khalsa School first opened its doors on Tuesday, September 2, 1986 in a small building on Fraser Street in Vancouver with 100 eager students and their grateful parents.  We now successfully educate over 2700 students annually in pre-school to Grade 12. Our several thousand alumni contribute their skills and talents in a variety of ways locally, nationally, and internationally.

Our founder, Bhai Sahib Jeevan Singh jee of Akhand Keertani Jatha, understood that the future lay in the hands of our children and that the best way to show love for them is to give them a holistic education which encourages them to live a life full of Guru ji’s blessings. Khalsa School continues to honour his vision and is proud to nurture the leaders of tomorrow.

Khalsa School Surrey and Khalsa School Mission are certified by the Province of British Columbia. We use the BC Curriculum as our foundation, but intentionally deepen the personal learning for our students by including studies in Kirtan, Tabla, Gurmat, Santhya, and Gatka along with daily Gurdwara assemblies. Our classes are designed to teach an outstanding knowledge base and advanced skill set while continually preparing students to a high standard for the next stage in their academic program.

2016 - 2017 promises to be a fantastic year as we implement BC's New Curriculum in ways that continue to provide a firm foundation in the basic skills.

Classes at all campuses begin on Tuesday, September 6, 2016. It is a full day of school for everyone. KPS, KSN, and OYR elementary schools start at 8:10 a.m. and finish at 3:30 p.m. daily.  Khalsa Secondary School starts at 8:15 a.m. and finishes at 3:25 p.m. The shuttle bus leaves KSN at 7:45 a.m. and departs from KSS at 3:30 p.m. Students attending our beautiful campus in Mission will be notify directly regarding bus pick up and drop off times. Please make sure your child brings a snack and lunch or money to purchase food from the cafeteria.

If your child is going to use our bus service (including shuttle bus), you must pay bus fees by August 22, 2016 in order for your family to be included when finalizing routes. Bus drivers will contact families direct with details regarding pick up and drop off times.

To seek Guruji's blessings on the occasion of the start of the new session, we will have Akhand Paath Sahib on Saturday, September 3, 2016. Kirtan will start at 9:00 a.m. and Akhand Paath at 10 a.m. at our Newton Campus located at 6933 124th Street, Surrey. Akhand Paath Bhog will be on Monday, September 5 at 10:00 a.m. followed by Kirtan also at our Newton Campus. Everyone is cordially invited to attend. Guru Ka Langar will be served.

Khalsa Secondary School is excited about the new system of individual student schedules. Any KSS students who have not yet submitted their course selection forms, need to do so as soon as possible in order for choices to be entered into the My Ed BC scheduling module. For more information, call 604-585-8200 or email Mrs. Deol, KSS Vice-Principal at rdeol@khalsaschool.ca

Khalsa School Campuses

Our School

Academic Excellence

Since 1986 the focus of Khalsa School has been to provide our students with an education that will help them become productive members of our community.  Khalsa School regularly achieves results that are amongst the highest in the province for standardized tests.  Our teachers do a great job in teaching our students and going above and beyond the provincially mandated student curriculum.  As a Khalsa School student, your child would benefit from an excellent well-rounded education.

Sikhi Excellence

Khalsa School was founded based on the idea that we need to preserve the Sikh identity for future generations. Khalsa School students attend a daily assembly in the Gurdwara Sahib where we do kirtan, ardaas and have the daily hukamnaama.  The Sikh Dharmic teachers at the school provide an education in Punjabi, Gurbani, Sikh History, Kirtan and Gatka.  This part of your child's education is very important and the Sikhi knowledge that they attain while going to Khalsa School will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

Sports Excellence

Over the years Khalsa School has produced athletes who have competed and won championships at the city, regional, provincial, national and international levels.  Our teachers and coaching staff works hard to achieve great results from our students.  The Khalsa Lions school teams have earned a strong reputation amongst many regional private and public schools as a fierce competitor.

Personal Excellence

Khalsa School is a place where students' lives are enlightened with moral and spiritual values.  We have established high standards within our academic and religious education programs. With our closed campus policy, students remain at the school during school hours and are guarded from negative social influences of modern society.  Khalsa School provides an ideal experience for your children to excel at what is important for you and their futures as well.
